Danish aviation company Air Service Vamdrup with workshop facilities in both Denmark and at Eggemoen Aviation & Technology Park in Hønefoss, 60 km northwest of Oslo, Norway, has been approved as Cirrus CAPS Center in Norway.
Cirrus’ popular SR20 and SR22 aircraft are known all over the world for their revolutionary safety system that may be released by the pilot in case of emergency or safety landing. The system, Cirrus Airframe Parachute System (abbreviated CAPS), has proven life saving in numerous situations so far.
Air Service Vamdrup, headquartered in Vamdrup, Denmark, and since May 2014 also represented in Norway with workshop facilities at Eggemoen Aviation & Technology Park, 60 km northwest of Oslo, has just been approved as Cirrus CAPS Center in Norway. The approval allows the workshop to perform the CAPS system replacement that is required in a Cirrus aircraft every 10 years. Performing the replacement requires both additional education and special approvals since the workshop must store and handle rocket fuel as well as see to that old rocket fuel is destroyed.
- As of January 1st 2015 we were approved as Cirrus Service Center, and now, some 11 months later, we can add the CAPS Center-capability to our list. We have been looking forward to sharing this good news with everyone in the industry, not least in Northern Europe and Norway, said Torben Biehl Jensen, Business Development Director at Air Service Vamdrup. - The CAPS capability has only been available three other places in Europe, so the new capability at our facilities in Norway is quite the catch. From now on, Cirrus owners in Northern Europe will save both time and money when using our workshop at Eggemoen when their aircraft is due for CAPS replacement - not least due to much shorter ferry flights, he concluded.
The fact that Air Service Vamdrup is now both Cirrus Service Center and CAPS Center allows them to perform all sorts of maintenance and inspections as well as composite repairs related to Cirrus aircraft. To both owners and technicians it is a lot easier and less time consuming - and thus less expensive - to perform a CAPS replacement at the same time as e.g. an annual inspection.
